The True Gentleman is the man whose conduct proceeds from good will and an acute sense of propriety, and whose self-control is equal to all emergencies; who does not make the poor man conscious of his poverty, the obscure man of his obscurity, or any man of his inferiority or deformity; who is himself humbled if necessity compels him to humble another; who does not flatter wealth, cringe before power, or boast of his own possessions or achievements; who speaks with frankness but always with sincerity and sympathy; whose deed follows his word; who thinks of the rights and feelings of others, rather than his own; and who appears well in any company, a man with whom honor is sacred and virtue safe.

Our Story

The Sigma Alpha Epsilon Massachusetts Beta-Alpha chapter received colony status on November 18th, 2005, after a long period of hard work by a group of men assembled by the chapter’s founder, Peter Ross.  A commitment to anti-hazing and anti-drug programs was the core tenet to this newfound colony.

As an undergraduate, Peter searched for like-minded men in the Boston area.  After bringing in several like-minded, upstanding young men, and with guidance from SAE alumnus Andrew Danielson (CAXI ’81), the group operated as a fully functioning fraternity seeking affiliation with Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

Years of hard work by many brothers achieved fruition on April 28, 2007, when Massachusetts Beta-Alpha achieved a charter from SAE, thus establishing the first citywide consortium SAE chapter.

Massachusetts Beta-Alpha hopes to extend membership to students of accredited Boston-area universities, where no SAE chapter exists, searching out the best and brightest true gentlemen Boston has to offer.
